Overview
Microsoft 365 E3 is the enterprise subscription tier: each seat covers the desktop Office applications on up to five PCs or Macs and five mobile devices, a 100 GB Exchange Online mailbox, SharePoint and 1 TB of OneDrive storage, plus Entra ID Plan 1 and Intune for identity and device management. This is the no-Teams edition Microsoft has sold since April 2023; Teams is a separate purchase. The subscription is billed for the term and the applications enter reduced-functionality mode when it lapses.

Installation
The seats are assigned to your Microsoft 365 tenant, after which each user signs in at the Microsoft 365 portal and installs the Office apps from there.
Frequently asked questions
Is Teams included?
No. This is the E3 plan without Teams, which Microsoft has sold as a separate SKU since April 2023. The E3 with Teams subscription includes it.
What happens when the year ends?
The applications enter reduced-functionality mode: documents remain readable but editing stops until the subscription is renewed. Files in OneDrive and SharePoint stay in place through a retention period set by Microsoft.
How many devices can one seat install on?
Five PCs or Macs and five mobile devices per named user. A seat is a person, not a machine.
