Overview
Windows Server 2022 Standard remains widely deployed and is a practical choice where application vendors have not yet certified support for the 2025 release. It introduced secured-core server capabilities, HTTPS and TLS 1.3 enabled by default, and improvements to Storage Migration Service. Licensing follows the same per-core model as later releases, with two operating system environments granted per licensed server.
Standard or Datacenter?
Both editions of this release install from the same media, carry the same system requirements and are licensed the same way. The difference is how many operating system environments the license grants — and, on the Datacenter side, the virtualisation features that come with it.

Yes. Mainstream support ends on 13 October 2026 and extended support — security updates only — runs to 14 October 2031.
Do I need Client Access Licenses?
